Missing Person Update: Joan Gundlach

A group of kayakers searching for 70-year-old Joan Gundlach found her in the Spokane River near Pleasantview Road on April 26, 2013. Gundlach was recovered by divers from the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office. No details about the cause of death are being released at this time, pending further investigation and an autopsy scheduled for this week.

Remove Studded Snow Tires

Per the Idaho Department of Transportation, studded snow tires are only legal from October 1 to April 30. Now is the time to remove them from your vehicle as law enforcement will issue citations to anyone in violation of the state code.

Telecommunications Week 2013

In celebration of National Public Telecommunicators Week (April 14-20), the Post Falls Police Department would like to recognize the Emergency Communications Officers (ECO's) for all they do. Each year, a week in April is dedicated to the men and women who serve as Public Safety Telecommunicators (dispatchers).

Whether it is a citizen calling the police to report an accident or an alarm company notifying police of a commercial alarm, the police department's communications center handles thousands of calls for assistance each year. The communications officers are the lifeline for the community and the patrol officers. They are the initial contact with individuals in need of services and therefore must project a positive and supportive image.

K9 PROGRAM

The K9 Program was started in October 2009. Our first dog, Koda, was purchased in California where he and his handler received extensive patrol training. Koda is a male German Shepherd born in Czechoslovakia. He was brought to the United States just prior to the Post Falls Police Department acquiring him. Koda and his handler, Officer Bowne, train together almost daily to keep their skills current.

Crime-fighting has gone high-tech and mobile in Post Falls as residents can now report criminal activity via text messages. The Post Falls Police Department has launched a new system that allows individuals to email or text information to the Police Department Communications Center through their cell phones to crime@pfpd.us. The system will provide reassurance to individuals familiar with texting and email while allowing the Police Department to gain valuable information regarding crimes that may be occurring in the City.

Arrest in the Karina Moore Death

Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh announced on Thursday, November 3, that a Kootenai County Grand Jury returned two four count indictments charging Amber Marie Clark, (28 YOA) and Jeremy Michael Clark (36 YOA), both of Post Falls, for their actions in relation to the death of two year old Karina Moore, as well as injuries sustained to another child. The indictments charge two counts of injury to child, one count of conspiracy to conceal evidence and one count of perjury.

Walmart Burglary

On 02/09/11, the Post Falls Police Department received information about a suspected organized shoplifting ring involving two or more suspects. The suspects targeted multiple Walmart stores in Washington, Idaho and Oregon. This report was initially given by Walmart loss prevention officers working the Walmart store located at 6405 W. Point Parkway, Post Falls.

The suspects in these cases would remove an item from a large box, packing smaller valuables into the emptied box concealing stolen merchandise inside. The suspects would then pay the cost of the larger boxed item, to receive the stolen property.
