Overgrown Weeds in City Right of Way
The summer growing season has been well underway. Every spring, you may notice that weeds and overgrowth of various types appear quickly in Post Falls. The overgrowth is commonly found in residential yards, vacant lots, and commonly encroaching upon public right-of-way. At times, the overgrowth is such that it becomes a breeding ground and harborage for rodents or insects. When summer arrives, much of the overgrowth dies and thus becomes a serious fire hazard.
With the growth of grass and weeds on properties throughout the city, the Post Falls Police Department would like to remind residents of their responsibility to maintain their city right of ways. City right of ways include: alleys, swales, and fence-lines. Grass and weeds should be cut and maintained at a height of no more than eight inches. According to the Post Falls City Code, it has been deemed a public nuisance for a property owner to allow the overgrowth of weeds, vegetation, dead, decayed, diseased, or hazardous trees that are likely to harbor rats, vermin, or constitute a fire hazard. It is the property owner's duty and responsibility to have their vacant lots cleared of overgrown vegetation and their front or back lawns mowed before the grass reaches a height of 8”.
Please do your best to maintain your property and the city right of ways adjacent to your property. For more information please contact Ashleigh Schild at (208) 773-3517.
