The Post Falls Police Department recently took part in a traffic emphasis that was sponsored by the Office of Highway Safety. The emphasis took place December 18th – January 3rd and concentrated on Impaired and Aggressive driving.

We are pleased to report it was a positive impact on the community. We recorded 10 D.U.I. arrests, fugitives apprehended, citations for inattentive driving, speeding, driving while suspended and a list of other offenses.

Officers were assigned during shifts to work the traffic emphasis and were able to focus on Aggressive and D.U.I. drivers. In 2008 there were 12,172 D.U.I. arrests in Idaho, resulting in 96 fatalities. 40% of all Idaho fatalities were the result of an impaired driving crash and 85% of those killed were not restrained.

The goal of this enforcement effort is to support the statewide safety goal of reducing motor vehicle related deaths and serious injuries as a result of impaired drivers by increasing law enforcement presence and increasing enforcement of those impaired drivers. We thank the community for doing their part in driving safely over the holidays
