The K-9 program was started in October, 2009. Our K-9, Koda, was purchased in November in California where he and his handler received extensive patrol training. Koda is a Czechoslovakian born German Shepherd that was imported into the United States just prior to the Post Falls Police Department acquiring him. Koda and his handler, Officer Bowne, train together almost daily to keep their skills current. Koda will be attending further training to certify him as a drug detection dog.
Koda patrols with Officer Bowne on every shift that he works. He has searched the area for suspects at business alarms, participated in tracking a suspect wanted by a neighboring Law Enforcement agency, and given numerous exhibitions of his abilities to area groups.
Post Falls Police Department is currently fundraising for the K-9 program so that we can provide all of the necessities to care for Koda. If you would like to make a monetary donation to our program please contact us at the Post Falls Police Department, Post Falls City Hall, or visit Community First Bank. If you need further information on donations please contact Officer Brenda Smith at 208-773-6382 or bsmith@postfallspolice.com. We are collecting money only, we regret that we can not accept food, blankets or other items for Koda at this time.
