The Post Falls Police Department is pleased to announce the winner of our K-9 Naming Contest. Amanda Howard, 5th grader at Ponderosa Elementary School, submitted the name “Koda”. Amanda's entry was chosen from more than 350 entries submitted by area school children by a panel of seven judges.
Amanda wrote the following on her entry: “ Koda – I think Koda would be a good name for the K-9 officer because it means allies and K-9 officers and police officers are allies in making sure Post Falls is a safe place to live.”
Post Falls Police Chief, Scot Haug, and Mayor, Clay Larkin, congratulated Amanda and presented her a certificate and Mayors Medal at the City Council meeting held on January 5, 2010. In addition, Amanda's name, her winning entry, “Koda”, and the name of her elementary school, “Ponderosa Elementary”, will all be applied to the outside of Officer Bowne's patrol car.
Koda, the new K-9 Officer, has returned from training and has begun working shifts with his partner, Officer Bowne. In the next few months Officer Bowne and Koda will complete specialized training in narcotics.
