SUBJECT:
Click IT Don't Risk IT
Date:
September 7, 2004
The
Post Falls Police Department will be partnering up with other local law
enforcement agencies and the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) from September 13th –
September 26th, 2004
. Idahoans are encouraged to “Click It, Don’t Risk It”, to prevent
being issued a citation for not being buckled up. Law enforcement agencies
statewide are gearing up for seat belt saturation
patrol
s and aggressive drivers during this time frame.
Every
day, five Idahoans are either killed or seriously injured in traffic
crashes. In 2002, 62 percent of the 216 people who died in motor vehicle
crashes in
Idaho
were not properly restrained, according to the Idaho Office of Highway
Safety. NHTSA estimates that half of all those killed would have lived if
they had buckled up.
The
Post Falls Police Department is declaring a “zero tolerance” for
unbuckled motorists. We will be conducting saturation
patrol
s as they have been proven nationwide to work. According to National
Highway Safety Administration, if every state conducted high visibility
enforcement, 5,000 lives could be saved each year. So please, help do your
part and buckle up!
