SUBJECT:
Violent Domestic - Shooting
Date:
December 18, 2007
On
December 17, 2007 at approximately 6:15 P.M. the Post Falls Police
Department responded to the report of a violent domestic dispute at the
Ross Point Apartments off of 2nd Avenue, it was reported that a weapon was
involved. While responding, witness reported hearing a fight going on
inside the apartment and screaming coming from within the area. Moments
later it was reported that shots were fired from the apartment.
Once
on scene, officers found a distraught female and her children standing in
the street, upon further investigation a male was discovered lying on the
front porch of the apartment. He apparently suffered a self inflicted gun
shot wound to the head and was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
The
female reported that the male was her estranged husband, they had been
divorced for several months and he was no longer living at the apartment.
It
appears that the male, who had threatened suicide earlier in the day,
entered the apartment in a rage. As the female attempted to call 911 he
forcefully removed the phone from her. While inside the apartment, the
male attempted to fire the gun but the gun did not fire due to the handgun
jamming. The female, her children and a friend who was visiting, were able
to run out of the residence while the male was attempting to clear the
jammed weapon. Within seconds of fleeing the residence the female reported
hearing a single gun shot.
The
scene was secured and Post Falls Police Detectives are currently
investigating the incident.
