Press Release

SUBJECT: Suspect Apprehended with Taser

Date: January 13, 2005

On January 12, 2005 at approx. 2300 hrs. the Post Falls Police Department responded to a report of a Domestic Dispute in the 2100 Blk of Cabinet Street. Once on scene the officers were faced with an uncooperative male subject. After the officers identified themselves the male subject grabbed a machete and got up from the couch with the machete in hand. The subject raised the machete and walked towards the officers in an aggressive manner, he refused to drop the machete after several requests from the officers involved. One officer was able to deploy his department issued X-26 Taser. The subject dropped the machete and was taken into custody. The subject was booked into the Kootenai County Jail on Domestic Violence and Assault on an Officer charges.

This is just another example of how the Taser continues to save lives. Without the use of the Taser there is a high likelihood that officers would have been forced to use their firearms. The subject has been identified as David Lee Melton.
