SUBJECT: Assault Suspect Arrested

Date: February 9, 2004

On February 9th 2004 at approximately 10:30 pm, The Post Falls Police Department arrested 24-year-old Ryan Hippenstiel after contact was made when he was seen driving by Post Falls Officers. Hippenstiel was wanted for questioning in an aggravated assault with a firearm and other crimes.  During the contact with Mr. Hippenstiel, he provided Officers with false information about his identity.  Hippenstiel was recognized by an officer on scene and taken into custody when it was discovered that the vehicle Hippenstiel was driving had been reported stolen.  An inventory of the vehicle by detective Gunderson revealed over 30 pieces of identification including drivers licenses, social security cards and other miscellaneous paperwork belonging to people other than Hippenstiel.  With the assistance of Coeur d’ Alene Detectives, Post Falls Investigators were able to obtain a search warrant for Mr. Hippenstiel’s apartment.  A search of the apartment led to the recovery of the firearm used in the Post Falls assault as well as evidence of identity theft.   Post Falls Investigators are continuing to contact owners of the identification seized to notify them of the recovery.

Hippenstiel is currently in custody at the Kootenai County Jail on Felony charges with additional charges forthcoming.
